President Moon Jae-in has offered his support for the safety of the AstraZeneca vaccine ahead of an inoculation campaign on those aged 65 and older set to begin on Tuesday.

In a meeting with his aides on Monday, Moon noted that he and First Lady Kim Jung-sook will be receiving their first of two AstraZeneca shots on Tuesday ahead of their participation in the G7 Summit in June.

The president underlined that the safety and efficacy of the vaccine developed by the British-Swedish pharmaceutical company and Oxford University has been reconfirmed internationally and that many European countries have resumed administering them.

He urged the public not to doubt its safety and to receive the shots when it is their turn, stressing that getting vaccinated is a move to safeguard not only themselves but also the society at-large.

Moon added the public should take extra caution against fake news, adding those inciting concerns over the AstraZeneca vaccine will have no place in the nation.
