The South Korean government is set to begin providing AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines to some 64-thousand special education teachers and nurses in schools and daycare centers from the first week of April.
Vice Education Minister Jung Jong-chul unveiled the measure on Thursday as he announced the government’s plans to support school operations in the new school year.
The ministry will begin AstraZeneca vaccinations in June for some 491-thousand daycare and kindergarten teachers, as well as teachers for first and second graders in elementary schools.
The ministry plans to discuss with quarantine officials ways to have teachers charged with third-year high school students inoculated in the summer to avoid any disruptions in agenda for this year’s college entrance exams.
Officials are also aiming to have the third-year students get vaccinated during summer vacation so that the vaccinations can be completed before the exams.
