Acting Prosecutor General Cho Nam-kwan has accepted an order issued by Justice Minister Park Beom-kye to review the bribery case of former Prime Minister Han Myeong-sook.
Cho said on Thursday that the prosecution will review the case at the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office(SPO), where there will be sufficient discussions after briefings from the prosecution's inspection unit as called by the minister.
Cho added that he will also have heads of high prosecutors’ offices take part in the discussions to enhance fairness and conduct an extensive deliberation.
On Wednesday, the minister ordered a review of allegations that prosecutors had forced witnesses to give false testimony in Han's bribery trial in 2011. Han served a two-year jail term for accepting illicit political funds while in office.
The minister asked the SPO to convene a meeting of senior prosecutors and reexamine an earlier dismissal of related charges by Monday, when a related statute of limitations expires.
