In just two days, over 80 foreign nationals residing in Dongducheon, north of Seoul, tested positive for COVID-19.

The city announced Tuesday that preemptive testing found that 79 foreign nationals and two Koreans living in the city contracted the virus, though five cases among foreign nationals were reported on Monday.

Alarmed by the surge in infections in surrounding areas, the city is currently conducting a comprehensive test on the three-thousand-966 foreigners registered to be living in the city.

A local government official said that outside of the fact that there is a mass infection among foreign nationals, there’s nothing in particular they can confirm. Officials still have yet to figure out what jobs the foreign nationals have.
