S. Korean Retail Investors' Net Stock Buying Nears 100 Tln Won Since January 2020

South Korean retail investors' net stock buying neared 100 trillion won since last year amid the retail stock buying frenzy.

According to data by the Korea Exchange, local individual investors bought a net 99-point-24 trillion won since January 2020.

Retail investors scooped up a monthly average of seven trillion won worth of shares during the 14 month period since January last year, when the country's first COVID-19 patient was reported.

They purchased 78-point-26 trillion won worth of shares in the main bourse and nearly 21 trillion won in the secondary KOSDAQ market during the cited period.

In contrast, foreign investors sold 32-point-seven trillion won, while institutional investors dumped 61-point-63 trillion won during the period.
