New daily cases of COVID-19 in South Korea slid below 600 on Friday.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency(KDCA) said 561 cases were confirmed in the 24 hours to 12 a.m. Friday, raising the country's accumulated total to 86-thousand-128.

Of the new cases, 533 were local infections while 28 were imported.

Of domestic cases, 396 were from the greater Seoul area, including 177 in the capital city, 182 in Gyeonggi Province and 37 in Incheon.

Though daily infections slipped below 600 after two days over that amount, health authorities remain on alert as clusters involving large workplaces and family gatherings continue to emerge amid a resurgence following last week's Lunar New Year holiday.

Meanwhile, the number of virus-related deaths rose by six to one-thousand-550.
