Daily COVID-19 cases rose by the 500s amid recent signs of a resurgence following last week's Lunar New Year holiday.

The number of new infections is, however, down 60 from the previous day.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency(KDCA) said that as of 12:00 a.m. Friday, 561 additional people tested positive, raising the country's cumulative total to 86-thousand-128.

Of the new cases, 533 were local transmissions while 28 were imported.
