The South Korean government will adjust the nation's social distancing regulations by simplifying the five-level system and minimizing operation bans on multi-purpose facilities.

The Health Ministry said on Thursday that the system will be simplified to put forth clear guidelines for the public, and the standards applied to each level will be eased to reflect the country's reinforced medical capacity.

Operation bans on multi-purpose facilities will be minimized as the prolonged distancing has taken a toll on small business owners. Entry of people, however, will be limited to control the density.

A one-strike system will be introduced for businesses that violate quarantine rules to reinforce punishment, while violators will face more claims in damages.

Private gatherings and events, however, will remain subject to partial government restrictions in accordance with distancing levels.

The government is expected to announce a draft of the revisions next week to collect opinions from various sectors.
