President Moon Jae-in says the government will do its best to overcome the COVID-19-induced economic crisis as far as the nation’s fiscal capacity can afford.

Moon made the remark in a meeting with his aides at the top office on Monday, promising efforts to devise “bold” and “timely” measures to cushion the impact of the protracted coronavirus present.

He noted the difficulty faced by local small business owners amid the pandemic, saying never before had their businesses faced such lengthy restrictions.

Moon also addressed the government’s challenges in responding to the latest national crisis, pointing to four supplementary budgets drafted last year and three rounds of relief payouts.

His remarks come as rival political parties are bickering over whether the planned fourth round of relief package should include payments for everyone.

Moon did not articulate his stance on the matter and said that it is not easy to judge what is best to do within realistic conditions.
