The South Korean government has confirmed a shipment of AstraZeneca vaccines enough for 750-thousand people is set to arrive on the final week of this month.

The first shipment is part of vaccines enough for 10 million people that Seoul is purchasing directly from the pharmaceutical company.

Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency(KDCA) Commissioner Jeong Eun-kyeong on Monday confirmed plans are underway to receive and transport the one-point-five million doses of the two-dose AstraZeneca vaccine.

Jeong said the amount of Pfizer vaccines set to be provided through the COVAX Facility has also been confirmed but added a delay is possible due to remaining administrative procedures.

She said South Korea has confirmed it will access 117-thousand doses of the Pfizer vaccine and two-point-six million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine through the global vaccine distribution initiative over the first half of this year.

Meanwhile, regarding the controversy over the efficacy of the AstraZeneca vaccines for those 65 years and older, Jeong said the KDCA is looking into additional tests regarding the products.
