Hyundai and its affiliate Kia Motors said Monday they are not currently in talks with Apple over its driverless electric car project, one month after reports had emerged of such a collaboration.

In separate regulatory filings, they said that they have received requests from multiple firms for cooperation in joint development projects of self-driving EVs but that no decision has yet been made. They added that talks are not under way with Apple.

Since last month, a series of media reports have come out saying that Apple was discussing manufacturing an autonomous electric vehicle by 2024 with the two South Korean carmakers.

Without mentioning the U.S. firm by name, Hyundai previously said it was in talks with various firms and in so, indirectly acknowledged a collaboration with Apple. The latest denial implies that talks had been ongoing but are now suspended.

Over the weekend, Bloomberg reported that Apple had held talks with Hyundai and Kia but the discussions stopped recently, with one reason being that Apple was upset its EV plans were made known to the media.

Industry observers believe the suspension is more temporary and not a complete termination as talks can resume in the future.
