Justice Minister Park Beom-kye has denied that he disregarded Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl’s opinions in a reshuffle of senior prosecutors.
He revealed such a stance on Monday to reporters on his way to work, saying he did his best to reflect Yoon’s opinions, suggesting he sufficiently reflected the top prosecutor's opinion in the personnel issues.
Park said the head of the Justice Ministry’s Criminal Affairs Bureau has been replaced while the head of the Daejeon District Prosecutors’ Office will remain in his post.
It was said that Yoon had made such requests for the two posts in addition to seeking a replacement for the head of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office.
On the Supreme Prosecutors’ Offices’ complaint that Park hadn’t given notice in advance of the finalized personnel reshuffle, the minister said he had clearly conveyed the finalized details to Yoon verbally when they met.
In the latest reshuffle, Park replaced only four senior prosecutorial posts. The move suggests that he will carry out a major overhaul of the prosecution when Yoon’s term ends in July. Asked about such a possibility, Park confirmed he has such plans.
