First Vice Finance Minister Kim Yong-beom said on Friday that South Korea fared significantly well compared to other major countries after posting 26 percent growth in its current account surplus last year.

The vice minister gave the assessment in a meeting with economy-related ministers in Seoul.

The Bank of Korea said earlier on Friday said the country's current account surplus came to 75-point-three billion U.S. dollars in 2020, up 26-point-14 percent from a year earlier.

The vice minister said that it's the sixth-largest surplus since the nation started compiling related data, calling it another "feat" achieved amid the pandemic.

Kim said that South Korea fared well compared to other major economies in terms of current account, which confirmed once again the country's global competitiveness in goods and services and provided a solid safety net for the economy amid the epidemic.
