Health authorities are concerned COVID-19 may spread further as daily infections in South Korea continue in the 400 range.
Speaking at a meeting of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters on Saturday, Minister of the Interior and Safety Jeon Hae-cheol said the outbreak had been somewhat stabilizing but new clusters have emerged from facilities related to a missionary organization.
Regarding adjustments to social distancing guidelines to be announced Sunday, the minister said the government is reviewing a decision on whether to revise distancing levels more carefully, given the growing uncertainties in the virus situation.
He said various opinions will be taken into account in making the decision and the public will be sufficiently notified about the changes to prevent any confusion ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday.
The minister added the government is aware of prolonged distancing measures having an economic and psychological toll, and vowed to continue efforts to bring back normal life as soon as possible.
