A North Korean defector has filed a police complaint against poet Jang Jin-sung, who is also a defector, on charges of sexual assault.
Kim Jong-hwee, the attorney for the plaintiff Seung Seol-hyang, held a news conference Friday outside the National Police Agency, where he said they are also pressing charges against a former board chairman of a private school in Seoul, surnamed Jeon.
The lawyer claims Jeon raped his client in 2016 when she was intoxicated, then photographed her and sent the photos to Jang. Jang then allegedly blackmailed Seung four times, threatening to release the photos, before he raped her.
Kim said there are more victims and an investigation needs to uncover the truth.
In response, a representative defending Jang argued that Seung's claims are false and rather she was the one to threaten Jang and Jeon. The official said they have submitted Jang's mobile phone for forensic analysis and when the results come out, Jang will prove his innocence.
