The prosecution has indicted former Busan Mayor Oh Keo-don on sexual harassment and libel charges.

The Busan District Prosecutors’ Office on Thursday said Oh was indicted without detainment for sexually assaulting two female employees of Busan City Hall.

The indictment came nine months after the mayor resigned from the post on April 23 following admission that he sexually harassed a female civil servant at his office earlier that month.

Suspicions later emerged that another municipal government employee was also sexually harassed by the 72-year-old politician, who partially admitted to the additional allegations.

Prosecutors charged Oh with assaulting the first victim and attempting a second assault on her. The prosecution also charged him with not only assaulting the second victim, but also injuring her.

The mayor was charged with filing false complaints against YouTuber channel operators who reported his alleged crimes as well.

Meanwhile, the prosecution dropped charges of election law violations against the ex-mayor and three other senior Busan City officials, citing lack of evidence.

The ruling Democratic Party-affiliated former mayor and the three aides were suspected of trying to hide the allegations from the public until after the April 16 local elections to prevent them from damaging the party’s election performance.
