South Korea called to differentiate approaches toward the service and manufacturing sectors when imposing digital taxes.

The proposal was made on Wednesday by Yoon Tae-sik, a deputy minister at the Finance Ministry, during a virtual meeting of the Group of 20(G20) finance and central bank deputies.

The aim of the proposal is that considering the initial objective, taxation on digital service companies, such as search engines, and consumer-oriented manufacturing businesses, including mobile phone makers, should be different.

The ministry also suggested further extending the Debt Service Suspension Initiative(DSSI) for 73 low-income states as they cope with the COVID-19 pandemic. The initiative, which was initially scheduled to end in December 2020, has already been extended once and a second will be decided on by April.
