Police plan to launch an investigation into sexual harassment allegations against Kim Jong-cheol, the former head of the minor opposition Justice Party.

The Yeongdeungpo Police Station said on Tuesday it received a complaint from a civic group called Hwalbindan, and handed the case over to Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency. The capital police agency is expected to open an investigation soon and question the alleged victim and secure CCTV footage containing possible evidence.

On Monday, Kim stepped down after admitting to the allegation that he sexually harassed fellow party lawmaker Jang Hye-young earlier this month.

Jang is reportedly not considering pressing criminal charges against Kim, but sexual harassment allegations can be subject to police investigations with a third party complaint.
