KOSPI Begins New Year with Another Record High

South Korea's leading stock market has once again hit an all-time high on the first trading day of the year. 

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index(KOSPI) rose 70-point-98 points, or two-point-47 percent, on Monday, to close at two-thousand-944-point-45.

During the morning session, the index broke the two-thousand-900 threshold for the first time. 

The tech-heavy KOSDAQ also rose, gaining nine-point-20 points, or zero-point-95 percent, to close at 977-point-62. 

On the foreign exchange, the local currency strengthened four-point-two won against the dollar, ending the session at one-thousand-82-point-one won.
