The government began accepting from Monday applications for an allowance that will be given out to low-income job seekers who are not eligible to get employment insurance benefits.
Labor Minister Lee Jae-kap said Monday that the government began accepting applications for the so-called “national employment support system.”
The system aims to provide a monthly allowance of 500-thousand won per person for six months to low-income job seekers, career-interrupted women, unemployed youth and self-employed small business owners who’ve seen a discontinuance in their business.
The government began accepting applications as the system is set to go into effect from Friday.
In order to receive such allowance, applicants must meet certain criteria in terms of income and assets. That includes being in the bottom 50 percent bracket in terms of household income and having assets of less than 300 million won. In addition, people who have been employed for more than 100 days in the past two years will be able to receive such allowance.
