South Korea posted a current account surplus for the fourth straight month in August as exports declined at a slower pace than imports amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the tentative data by the Bank of Korea on Thursday, the country's current account surplus for the month reached six-point-57 billion U.S. dollars, up 35-point-one percent from a year earlier.

The current account has been in the black since the country logged a deficit in April.

The goods balance posted a surplus of seven billion dollars in August, up two-point-38 billion dollars on-year.

Both exports and imports posted on-year drops for the sixth straight month in August, but imports declined at a faster pace than exports.

The service account logged a deficit of 800 million dollars in August, though it narrowed by 760 million dollars from a year earlier.
