The South Korean women's handball team have advanced to the semifinals of the 16th World Handball Championship being held in Zagreb, Croatia, in the process guaranteeing a spot for the team at the Athens Summer Olympic Games next year.

South Korea defeated Spain Friday by a score of 32 to 29, recording three wins and two losses overall in the tournament and advancing to the semifinals ranked second place in Group 1.

This is the second time that South Korea has advanced to the tournament's semifinal round since it won the championship in 1995.
