South Korea's consumer price growth hit a one-year high in September on a sharp rise in prices of agricultural goods and petroleum products.

According to data by Statistics Korea Friday, the country's consumer price index climbed one-point-nine percent last month from a year earlier.

It is the highest increase since September last year, when the index rose two-point-one percent. The growth, however, remains below two percent for the 12th straight month since October last year.

The rise was mainly led by a 12-point-four percent jump in vegetable prices due to the unprecedented heatwave and heavy rains in the summer. Prices of petroleum products also jumped more than ten percent due to rising crude oil prices.

Prices of electricity, water and gas dropped one-point-eight percent, while service prices gained one-point-four percent.
