The government will announce on Thursday active steps on curbing surging housing prices.

The Finance Ministry announced earlier on Wednesday that it would jointly unveil the measures with related ministries at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

The measures are set to mainly focus on increasing the comprehensive real estate tax.

The government is likely to raise the maximum rate of the comprehensive real estate tax to more than three percent for high-priced properties and multiple homeowners.

The government is also expected to apply loan to value ratios on loans granted to rental housing businesses which have been cited as a means to mobilize funds for speculation on apartments.
