The prosecution is seeking to arrest Samsung Electronics’ board chairman over his alleged involvement in a company-wide scheme to hamper labor union activities at a subsidiary.

The Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office said on Friday that it filed an arrest warrant request for Lee Sang-hoon on charges of violating labor union-related laws.

The prosecution suspects Lee was briefed on the schemes and gave instructions to break up labor union activities at Samsung Electronics Service since the union’s establishment at the after-sales services arm of the tech giant in 2013.

Known to be a close aide to Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong, Lee Sang-hoon served as CFO of the company for five years through 2017, before he was appointed to head Samsung's board of directors.
