A report says that half of the smartphones sold globally this year will have an artificial intelligence (AI) assistant.

According to a report on Sunday by Strategy Analytics, an industry consulting firm, 47-point-seven percent of smartphones sold on the global market will be equipped with some kind of on-device AI assistant, up from 36-point-six percent last year.

The report projected that the figure will increase to about 70 percent in 2020 and reach around 90 percent in 2023, saying that on-device AI is growing fast among smartphone vendors.

The global AI assistant market is being dominated by two tech giants Google and Apple. Last year, "Google Assistant" took a market share of 46-point-seven percent, while Apple's Siri took a share of 40-point-one percent.
