S. Korea's Trade Surplus with EU Plummets

South Korea’s trade surplus with the European Union(EU) has sharply declined from last year.

According to Eurostat on Wednesday, South Korea exported goods worth 20-point-nine billion euros to a total of 28 EU members in the first five months of this year, down by three-point-seven percent from the same period last year.

The country imported 20-point-five billion euros’ worth of goods from the EU in the January-May period this year, a rise of two-point-five percent from last year.

As a result, South Korea’s current account surplus with the EU during the five-month period plummeted from one-point-seven billion euros to 400 million euros.
