Labor groups and business representatives have convened their last session on deciding next year’s minimum wage.

The Minimum Wage Commission comprising representatives of labor, management and government intermediaries launched the session in Seoul on Friday, a day before the legal deadline for negotiations.

Under current law, labor and management are required to agree on next year’s minimum wage by midnight Saturday, which is 90 days after the labor minister requested the committee to review the matter.

Labor groups have demanded a 43-point-three percent hike in the minimum wage to ten-thousand-790 won from the current seven-thousand-530 won, while management has called for a freeze.

If labor and management fail to reach an agreement by the end of Friday, the representatives of the public interest will present their proposal and the council will put it to a vote after discussions.
