Around 26-thousand non-regular workers at public organizations affiliated with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport have been converted into regular employees under the Moon Jae-in administration’s initiative to strengthen job security at workplaces.
Land Minister Kim Hyun-mee revealed the figures in a meeting Monday with officials of public organizations under its wing.
The minister noted that they provide public services directly related with human lives so it is necessary to award non-regular workers with regular contracts, adding that the policy is being actively pursued.
Among 21 public organizations supervised by the ministry, 19 organizations, except for the Korea Expressway Corporation and the Korea Railroad Corporation, have decided to guarantee regular working positions to around 28-thousand-100 non-regular workers.
To date, 26-thousand, or 92 percent, of them have been converted into regular employees.
It is much higher than the average execution rate of 76-point-one percent in the public sector as recently revealed by the Labor Ministry.
