North Korea has expressed regret over the attitude of the United States during high-level talks with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and accused Washington of seeking unilateral denuclearization of North Korea.

The North’s Foreign Ministry on Saturday said in a statement that they expected the United States to bring constructive measures to build confidence in line with the spirit of the U.S.-North Korea summit and they  considered providing something that would correspond to them.

However, the North said the U.S. attitude and positions were regrettable, accusing it of making unilateral demands such as complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization during the talks.

The statement issued by an unnamed ministry spokesperson said that the "fastest way" to achieve a nuclear-free Korean peninsula was through a phased approach under which both sides took steps at the same time.

However, the ministry stressed that the North still has trust in U.S. President Donald Trump, apparently hinting that Pyongyang wants to keep the ongoing denuclearization talks on track.

It also mentioned that during the talks between Pompeo and Kim Yong-chol, vice chairman of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's letter for Trump was conveyed.
