The presidential office says if President Moon Jae-in potentially meets with Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong during his upcoming trip to India, it does not reflect a change in the president's economic policies.

Presidential spokesman Kim Eui-kyeom said on Friday that Lee will likely attend a ceremony in India next week to mark the completion of Samsung's new smartphone plant, not by invitation from the president, but as a business leader.

Moon will embarks on a state visit to India from July eighth to the eleventh, and is scheduled to attend the same ceremony in the northern Indian city of Noida on Monday.

If they both attend, it will be the first time Moon and Lee meet, since the business mogul was freed in February after serving prison time for his involvement in the corruption scandal that ousted former President Park Geun-hye.

Samsung invested 650 million U.S. dollars into the new factory in India amid a fierce competition with Chinese rivals.
