Samsung Electronics has projected that its second-quarter operating profit increased five-point-two percent from a year earlier, missing analyst estimates.

The South Korean tech giant said on Friday in its earnings guidance report that operating profit likely came to 14-point-eight trillion won in the April-June quarter, up five-point-two percent on-year.

Despite the on-year increase, the estimated figure for the second-quarter represents a decrease of five-point-four percent from the previous quarter, when it posted a record 15-point-64 trillion won.

The latest figure was also below the market's estimate of 15-point-two trillion won. Sales came to 58 trillion won, down four-point-nine percent from a year earlier.

The firm will release its finalized earnings report later this month.
