The government has delayed reaching a decision on what level of punishment to take against the budget airline Jin Air for violating the aviation law.

The company, which is the budget carrier unit of Korean Air, was confirmed to have illegally hired the daughter of the head of Hanjin Group, the parent company of the two airlines, as a registered executive for six years.

Cho Hyun-min, a former senior official at Korean Air, is a U.S. citizen, and under domestic aviation law, a foreigner cannot serve as a registered board member for a local airline.

The Transport Ministry initially said it would announce a decision regarding Jin Air on Friday but has pushed the announcement back to after July.

For now, the ministry has requested an investigation into public officials who had neglected Cho's unlawful registration as a board member.

In a briefing Friday, Second Vice Minister of Land, Transport and Infrastructure Kim Jeong-ryeol said a final decision will come after more related procedures are carried out such as a hearing and the gathering of opinions of concerned parties.
