Recommendations for the government's planned real estate tax reforms have been unveiled.

The Fiscal Reform Special Commission under the Presidential Commission on Policy Planning held a debate Friday, during which it unveiled its real estate tax reform plan, which will be proposed to the government next month.

The reform commission put forth a number of measures, such as raising the proportion of market value when setting the base for comprehensive taxes on multiple properties, and increasing the tax rate depending on housing prices.

Based on the commission's recommendations, the government is expected to come up with its property tax reform bill at the end of July, with hopes to get parliamentary approval in September, before it takes effect next year.

Increasing property taxes has been one of the Moon Jae-in government’s key goals since taking office in May of last year.

The administration announced a real estate measure last August that raised capital gains taxes on landlords who owned multiple homes.
