China has decided to slap anti-dumping tariffs on styrene imported from South Korea and the United States.

China’s Commerce Ministry announced on Friday that it will impose the tariffs ranging from three-point-eight percent to 55-point-seven percent, adding that the tariffs will go into effect from Saturday and last for five years.

The ministry claimed that styrene imports from South Korea, Taiwan and the United States significantly hurt related industries in China.

Styrene, also known as phenylethene, is an organic compound used in manufacturing synthetic rubber, plastic and ion-exchange resin.

Earlier in January, the U.S. targeted both China and South Korea when it signed a set of safeguard measures against imported large residential washing machines and solar cells.
