Hyundai Motor Group has signed a patent cross-licensing deal with Audi on technologies regarding fuel cell electric vehicles.

Under the partnership announced on Wednesday, the South Korean and German carmakers as well as their affiliate and parent company, Kia Motors and Volkswagen, respectively, will share patents and key components on fuel cell electric vehicles(FCEV).

Hyundai Motor’s Vice Chairman Chung Eui-sun expressed his expectation that the partnership will be a turning point in efforts to create an innovative industrial ecological system.

Peter Mertens, who handles technology development at Audi, said FCEVs is a highly potential area in pro-environment technology, and that teaming up with Hyundai will be a wise choice for innovation in the sector.
