Report: Meeting for the first time since the ruling Democratic Party’s recent election victory, senior officials from the party, the government and the presidential office agreed to work together to achieve peace and economic development.

Regarding a shorter working hour system, set to go into effect next month, the three sides agreed on a six-month grace period to allow companies to prepare for the shortened workweek.

Following the tripartite meeting, the ruling party spokesperson Park Beom-kye said the participants agreed to exempt violators from punishment during the grace period to "help minimize the impact of the shorter workweek."

The shorter workweek system is one of President Moon Jae-in's election pledges aimed at improving the Korean people's work-life balance.

Under revised laws, companies with 300 or more employees are obligated to reduce the maximum working hours to 52 hours per week, from the current 68 hours, starting July first.

The participants also agreed to announce a set of measures aimed at supporting job growth and boosting wages for low-income families in early July.

As for the minimum wage, the three sides decided to produce diverse ways to support low-income earners whose income may be reduced from the recent revisions to the law.

On inter-Korean relations, the participants agreed to take follow-up measures to thoroughly implement the April 27th Panmunjeom Declaration, and to seek the opposition parties' cooperation to secure parliamentary ratification or support for the declaration.
