The global sales of Hyundai Motor and its affiliate Kia Motors increased last month from a year earlier thanks in part to a growing popularity of its sports-utility vehicles and new or flagship models.  

Hyundai said Friday it sold 387-thousand-17 cars across the world in May, including in South Korea, up five-point-seven percent from the same month a year earlier. 

The South Korean automaker's domestic sales also rose by two-point-one percent to 61-thousand-896 last month. 

Kia Motors sold 247-thousand-176 units at home and abroad last month, posting a nine percent on-year growth. It overseas sales rose nine-point-two percent to 200-thousand-130.
