Prices of agricultural goods surged sharply last month.

According to Statistics Korea on Friday, prices of agricultural products grew nine percent on-year last month. In particular, vegetable prices jumped 13-and-a-half percent from a year earlier, posting the sharpest growth since last August.

Like last month, prices of potatoes climbed the most in May, posting growth of some 59 percent.

Prices of petroleum products also climbed six percent following the rise in crude oil prices. That was the largest growth to be posted since last December.

Livestock product prices, on the other hand, decreased eight-point-one percent last month from a year earlier.

The nation's consumer prices remained relatively stable in May, gaining one-point-five percent last month from a year earlier.

The growth remained in the one-percent range for the eighth straight month since it posted a two-point-one percent increase in September last year.
