South Korean stocks rose on Thursday as they tracked gains on Wall Street following signs the Italian political crisis is easing.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index(KOSPI) added 13-point-98 points, or point-58 percent, to close the day at two-thousand-423-point-01.

The tech-heavy KOSDAQ also strengthened, gaining five-point-44 points, or point-62 percent, closing at 879-point-66.

The Italian political crisis had rippled through global markets earlier this week, causing the KOSPI to drop by nearly two percent on Wednesday,

However, the situation has been eased after Italy’s two anti-establishment parties renewed efforts to form a coalition government, rather than force the country to hold elections for the second time this year.

On the foreign exchange, the local currency strengthened three-point-two won against the dollar, ending the session at one-thousand-77-point-seven won.
