The government said on Wednesday that it earned around one-point-seven trillion won in proceeds from the sales of lotteries last year. 

The Ministry of Strategy and Finance said it sold four-trillion-153-point-eight billion won worth of lottery tickets last year and earned one-trillion-709-point-nine billion won in profits, minus operating costs and distributed winnings. 

It said all the proceeds plus around 23 billion won was used for welfare projects for the public, including 550 billion won for supplying rental houses for low-income families.
