GM Korea, an affiliate of U.S. automaker General Motors, plans to shut down its plant in Gunsan on Thursday.

Thirty-eight people are to remain there to maintain the facilities.

GM announced on February 13th that it would close down the plant by the end of May, citing efforts to restructure operations in South Korea. Since then, about two-thousand workers there have all left.

The Gunsan factory, which has employed 12-thousand workers a year, operated for 22 years since its launch in 1996.
