Samsung Electronics plans to give its employees more freedom in managing their work hours from July.

The tech firm announced the plan on Tuesday, saying it aims to expand flexibility in working hours to achieve work-life balance.

The plan also seeks to foster a more effective work environment where employees can focus on work but also rest when they need to in an effort to maintain Samsung Electronics' global competitiveness.

Samsung's measure comes ahead of the 52-hour workweek regulation that will be introduced in phases from July starting with business entities hiring 300 or more workers.

Under Samsung's new "flex time" rule, employees can freely adjust when to arrive and leave work as long as they cover an average 40 hours of work per week for a given month.
