S. Korea Vows Efforts to Keep Momentum of Dialogue

South Korea says it will make diplomatic efforts to maintain the momentum of dialogue with regards to the cancellation of the U.S.-North Korea summit. 

Unification Ministry spokesperson Baik Tae-hyun issued the position during a regular news briefing on Friday.

Baik said that it appears both the U.S. and North Korea remain committed to resolving issues through dialogue. 

He cited that U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his willingness to continue talks with the North in his letter to Kim Jong-un and the North's Vice Foreign Minister Kim Kye-gwan also emphasized the North's intent to talk in a statement following Trump's announcement of scrapping the summit. 

The spokesman also assessed that North Korea remains committed to implementing the Panmunjeom Declaration and realizing the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. 

He added that under the judgment, the Seoul government will continue its efforts to implement the declaration announced after the inter-Korean summit last month.
