An umbrella labor union has called on parliament to stop its discussion on minimum wage calculation standards and hand the issue over to the Minimum Wage Commission.
The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions(KCTU) made the call when it held a news conference outside the National Assembly in Seoul on Thursday.
The confederation warned that if the ruling party goes on to revise the standards for the worse and decides on parliamentary procedures, it will consider this as the will of the presidential office and direct its all-out protest against the government.
The KCTU plans to hold a protest rally and a cultural event near the Assembly later in the evening.
Earlier this week during a subcommittee meeting of the parliament's labor committee, ruling and opposition parties, with the exclusion of the Justice Party, agreed to take regular bonuses into account when minimum wage is calculated.
Labor circles sternly object this move saying that if welfare benefits such as bonuses are included in the calculation, this could offset the effects of the minimum wage hike.
