Gaeseong Firms Consider Visiting N. Korea Soon

South Korean companies whose factories are shut down at the Gaeseong Industrial Complex are reviewing a plan to visit North Korea soon as part of efforts to resume operations at the suspended inter-Korean complex.

An emergency committee of the companies said on Friday that it held a workshop early in the day to discuss measures to normalize operations at the Gaeseong complex, including a visit to the North.

They said they need to see the current situations of the factories by themselves to set up specific plans for their normalization and are considering visiting the North as early as next month.

Shin Han-yong, the head of the committee, said the Panmunjeom Declaration is bringing the two Koreas closer to the resumption of three major inter-Korean projects: the Gaeseong complex, Mount Geumgang tourist program and railway links.

Shin also expressed his hope the situation at Gaeseong would return to how it was before February 2016, when the former Park Geun-hye administration ordered the suspension of the complex in response to the communist country's nuclear and long-range missile tests.
