The U.S. Defense Department says that there was no plan to mobilize its B-52 strategic bombers for the Max Thunder air drills with South Korea.

Pentagon spokesman Christopher Logan made the comment on Wednesday when asked by the Voice of America to comment on media reports that South Korea asked the U.S. not to deploy B-52 bombers to the Korean Peninsula.

President Moon Jae-in's special security adviser Moon Chung-in said on Wednesday that Defense Minister Song Young-moo made the request during his meeting with U.S. Forces Korea Commander Vincent Brooks.

North Korea on Wednesday cancelled inter-Korean high-level talks citing the ongoing air drills.
