The head of the World Food Programme(WFP) says South Korea has yet to announce when it will provide humanitarian assistance for North Korea.
WFP Executive Director David Beasley, who recently returned from a trip to the North, made the remark during a press conference in Seoul on Tuesday, when asked whether the UN agency agreed with the South Korean government on the timing of the assistance.
Beasley said the WFP will not make the decision, adding the South Korean government will announce it, but not on the day.
Last September, Seoul said it would provide eight million U.S. dollars in aid to the North via UN organizations, including four-point-five million dollars through the WFP.
In principle, humanitarian assistance for the North is not restricted by the current international sanctions on the North. However, Seoul is known to have been waiting for the right political circumstances to execute the plan.
