Samsung Executive Arrested over Alleged Labor Union Sabotage

An executive of Samsung Electronics’ after-service affiliate has been arrested for allegedly disrupting labor union activities.

The Seoul Central District Court on Tuesday issued an arrest warrant for the Samsung Electronics Service executive, only identified by the surname Choi, on charges of violating labor union and labor relations laws.

The court, however, rejected the prosecution's warrant requests for three other Samsung officials involved in the case.

Choi, who was in charge of a division dealing with labor union affairs from July 2013 to March this year, is suspected of leading a scheme to sabotage the establishment of a labor union at the company.

Prosecutors believe Choi instructed his firm's subcontractors to disrupt the labor union and to regularly report to him about the progress.
