S&P Officials to Visit S. Korea to Reassess Sovereignty Rating

Global credit rating agency Standard and Poor’s will send a team of officials to South Korea this week to renew its assessment on the country’s sovereign rating amid eased geopolitical tensions following last month's inter-Korean summit.

The Ministry of Strategy and Finance said on Monday that it will hold an annual consultation with S&P in Seoul for three days beginning Tuesday.

Four evaluators, led by S&P’s Asia-Pacific senior director of sovereign ratings Kim Eng Tan, will visit several government agencies, including the Ministry of Science and ICT, Defense Ministry, Unification Ministry in addition to the Finance Ministry. The Financial Services Commission and the state-run think tank, Korea Development Institute, are also on their itinerary.

Finance Minister Kim Dong-yeon will meet them on Thursday to explain Seoul's economic policies amid the reduced geopolitical risks stemming from North Korea.
